THE IDEAL MUSEUM
documenta 8, Kassel
1987
This building was designed in response to an invitation to Documenta 8 and was built as a model at a scale of 1:5. The museum consists of a number of concrete containers that can be increased as required. They are connected to each other by a bridge route. Each container measures 21x19 x17 metres and consists of four concrete walls without any special characteristics, either inside or outside. The bridge element penetrates the space at a height of 3.50 metres. In addition to the two wall openings for the bridge there is also a doorway for the delivery of museum exhibits. Light enters from above through the bays of the beamed ceiling.
